About HaledonDuring the 1913 Paterson Silk strike, Haledon received national attention when the town's socialist mayor invited strikers to meet at co-worker Pietro Botto's home. Thousands gathered, unmolested by Paterson authorities, to hear labor organizer William “Big Bill” Haywood and writers John Reed and Upton Sinclair. Although the workers' petitions were not immediately met, the Paterson Silk strike was a major turning point in the history of unionized labor.
