About JamestownThe first gold discovery in Tuolumne County was made near Jamestown in 1848. “Jimtown,” as it once was called, has served as a backdrop for such movies as “High Noon” and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Several buildings in town date to the 1870s. Many of the balconied buildings in the town's business district, which date from the 1860s and '70s, now house galleries, boutiques and shops.
