About Johnson CityNamed for the pioneer Johnson Family, ancestors of President Lyndon B. Johnson, the city is a retail center for a farm and ranch area. It also is the site of the Johnson City District of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, which includes the Lyndon B. Johnson Boyhood Home and the Johnson Settlement. Lyndon B. Johnson Ranch is 14 miles west.
A scenic overlook at Pedernales Falls State Park, 9 miles east on FM 2766, provides a view of the 3,000-foot-wide limestone canyon through which the Pedernales River has carved steps, cascades and pools.
