About JohnstonCamp Dodge Joint Maneuver Training Center, the training ground for the Iowa National Guard, was established here in 1906. One of 16 national training centers during World War I, the camp was home to 45,000 soldiers at its peak. Today the 4,400-acre facility is used by national guard, army reserve and active army units as well as civilian law enforcement officers from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.
