About La ConnerThis picturesque fishing port dates back to the founding of a trading post in 1868. In the late 19th century dikes and drainage works transformed the boggy marshlands of the nearby Skagit Flats into fertile farmland. Hops and oats were early boom crops; today flower bulbs are an important crop. The 1869 Magnus Anderson Cabin, at the corner of 2nd and Commercial streets, is the oldest building in town.
The west side of 1st Street provides views of docks and boats on the Swinomish Channel. The west bank of the channel is part of the Swinomish Indian Reservation, established in 1855. The La Conner Marina, 613 N. 2nd St. at the northern end of town, has nearly 500 open and covered moorage slips for recreational craft; phone (360) 466-3118.
