About Mellen Home of Copper Falls State Park and surrounded by the wooded hills of the Penokee Mountain Range, Mellen is a lumbering town as well as an eastern gateway to Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, where all-terrain vehicle and snowmobile trails crisscross the area. The red and black granite quarried in the area is used widely for monuments and buildings.
