About MiddletownDuring the almost 3 years of British occupation of Newport in the Revolutionary War, Middletown accommodated British Green End Fort and served as the eastern terminus of the British Newport defense lines. A plaque describing the fort's history is all that remains of the site on Vernon Avenue.
