About Mount VernonIn 1859 Abraham Lincoln successfully argued an important tax case in the Mount Vernon Appellate courthouse. In 1888 Clara Barton used the same building as a hospital following a large tornado. The city serves as a gateway to the expansive Rend Lake wildlife and recreation area.
