About Natural BridgeHistoric Natural Bridge, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is home to the “rock bridge” (the county's namesake) and adjacent to George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. Natural Bridge became a retreat when Thomas Jefferson built a two-room log cabin for guests. By the 19th century, the railway dropped off thousands of people at Natural Bridge station for a mountain respite, during which they would view the renowned rock bridge that Jefferson called “the most sublime of nature's works.” The site is now known as Natural Bridge State Park.
