DescriptionAt the mouth of the San Luis Rey Valley, Oceanside's 3.5 miles of beaches offer year-round opportunities for ocean recreation. The harbor has facilities for boating and sport fishing; whale-watching takes place during winter. Bordering Oceanside on the north is Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, which sprawls across more than 125,000 acres of coastal and mountain terrain used for military training; it is one of the world's leading amphibious training camps. The base also protects a huge swath of undeveloped coastline and is home to a host of plant and animals species.
