About PellaDutch emigrants settled here in 1847 and called the settlement Pella, “city of refuge.” Renovated to resemble a village in the Netherlands, the town is graced with historically designed storefronts and many tulip gardens. The downtown Klokkenspel, an animated musical carillon clock, features figures from town history.
The city's Dutch heritage is celebrated for 3 days in early May during Pella Tulip Time with wooden shoe dances, musical entertainment, traditional Dutch foods, parades, residents in traditional attire and, of course, gardens of colorful tulips.
