DescriptionThe second oldest city in the state, Pine Bluff was founded in 1819 as a trading post by Joseph Bonne, who dealt with the Quapaw Indians. Some of the properties in the city's historic district date from the Civil War period. A series of murals on downtown buildings depicts scenes from the city's history.
Tours of the restored 1887 childhood home of Pine Bluff native Martha Mitchell, 902 W. Fourth Ave., are offered by appointment; phone (870) 535-4973. Mitchell was a catalyst for national news during the Nixon administration and Watergate affair.
Enchanted Land of Lights and Legends, a drive-through holiday festival featuring approximately 230 displays at some 165 locations, is held mid-Nov. through Dec. 31 at Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Regional Park, US 65B.
