About PleasantonDowntown Pleasanton has a number of restored old buildings and houses. Stop by the Museum on Main at 603 Main St. for a crash course in regional history; phone (925) 462-2766. One of the nation's oldest racetracks is at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, off Pleasanton Avenue; it was built in 1858 by the sons of a Spanish don, Augustin Bernal. The presence of limestone in the soil is credited with making this an exceptionally fine track. For upcoming events information phone the events hotline at (925) 426-7559.
Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area, on the outskirts of town, was developed from an abandoned gravel quarry. A lake in the park offers swimming, boating and fishing.
