About RoseauOnce a Hudson Bay Fur Trading post, Roseau is now home to Polaris Industries, one of the nation's largest makers of snowmobiles. In winter, snowmobile trail systems between Thief River Falls, Roseau, Warroad and Bemidji cross endless stretches of northwestern Minnesota prairie. Some trails in the vicinity of Roseau and Warroad also offer ice riding on Lake of the Woods and the Rainy River. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, needless to say, are other popular winter pastimes.
Roseau City Park, off 11th Avenue S.E. along the Roseau River, is a wooded area offering hiking trails, playgrounds, sand volleyball courts, picnic shelters, a fishing pier and campsites. Hayes Lake State Park and Beltrami Island State Forest, both southeast of town, offer year-round recreational activities. Roseau River Wildlife Area, 60,000 acres of bog and forest land 8 miles north of town, and Roseau Bog Owl Management Unit, 8,960 acres of peat bog covered with black spruce, tamarack and cedar, offer excellent opportunities for wildlife observation.
