About San AngeloThe establishment of an army post, Fort Concho, precipitated the settlement of San Angelo. Several trails used by drovers, stage lines and pioneers intersected at the townsite, providing a setting for such historical figures as Smoky Joe, Mystic Maud, Miss Goldie and the Fighting Parson. The latter used gaming halls as his church and the faro table as his pulpit. Only once did someone protest, and the Fighting Parson replied with a rap on the head from the butt of his six-shooter.
