DescriptionOriginally known as Indian Oasis, Sells was renamed in 1918 in honor of Indian commissioner Cato Sells. The dependable water supply made the area a popular stop for travelers, even in prehistoric times.
Sells is the headquarters of the Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation. In addition to this vast reservation west of Tucson, a smaller tract is south of Tucson at the site of Mission San Xavier del Bac. Mainly farmers and ranchers, the Tohono O'odham are known for their handcrafted baskets and pottery.
