About ShakopeeNamed for Chief Shakopee, Shakopee was founded in 1851 on a Dakota Indian village site along the banks of the Minnesota River in the Minnesota Valley. Minnesota Valley State Trail, in Memorial Park on SR 101, is a scenic 6-mile walking, running and bicycling trail. A scenic portion of US 169 runs parallel to the Minnesota River from Le Sueur.
