The Pennsylvania State University, founded as an agricultural college in 1855, is located in the fertile Nittany Valley of central Pennsylvania. The school, established to teach methods of soil conservation, became Pennsylvania State College in 1874. A community slowly grew up around the school, and it was incorporated as the Borough of State College in 1896. Today Penn State University offers undergraduate degrees in more than 160 programs and some 160 graduate degree programs. The commonwealth's largest university, Penn State has more than 99,000 students at 27 locations statewide, including more than 46,600 at the University Park campus in State College. Learn More...
