About SummervilleSummerville was settled by coastal dwellers who moved inland in the summer to escape malaria. By the early 1890s the town became a popular health and winter resort. Much of its charm is derived from the natural beauty of its rambling streets, which wind around numerous pine trees protected by an ordinance prohibiting their removal. Azaleas, camellias and wisteria line the streets and provide seasonal blooms.
