Overview

About WabashaOne of the oldest towns on the upper Mississippi River, Wabasha was named after a Sioux Indian Chief, Wa-pa-shaw. Over the years the local economy has been based on fur trading, the lumber industry, milling and boat construction. Bald eagle sightings are common along the river during early winter and early spring migrations.

LARK Toys, in nearby Kellogg, is known for handmade wooden toys. From Wabasha, take SR 61 south to CR 18, then CR 18 west to Lark Lane and Lark Lane south to 63604 170th Ave. In addition to the retail store, visitor attractions include a museum with a collection of 25,000 antique toys; Memory Lane, which features woodworking displays and vintage collectibles; specialty shops; a miniature golf course; and a carousel with more than 20 hand-carved figures.
