About WoodwardAs were many Oklahoma towns, Woodward was created in a single day. Between noon and sunset on Sept. 16, 1893, when the Cherokee Outlet was opened for homesteading, Woodward became a trade and banking center. It also was on the Western Cattle Trail, which ran from Texas to Dodge City, Kan. The city is a marketing center for a wheat-growing and cattle-raising region.
