Museum of Flight
AAA Editor Notes
The Museum of Flight is .5 mi. n.w. of I-5 exit 158 at 9404 E. Marginal Way S. The pioneering spirit of aerospace technology begins at the Red Barn (part of the original Boeing airplane factory), where the Boeing story from 1916 to 1958 is told. The Personal Courage Wing explores aircraft from World Wars I and II; 28 fighter planes are on display, some of which can only be seen at the museum.

Cross the skybridge to view a retired Concorde jetliner and an Air Force One jet plane that you can walk through. The T.A. Wilson Great Gallery, a breathtaking 6-story glass and steel structure, displays 43 historic aircraft, including a replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer and a rare Lockheed M-21 Blackbird spy plane. Flight simulators are equipped with state-of-the-art 3-D visuals. Kids can learn the basics of flight through hands-on activities at the Flight Zone. The Tower exhibit, overlooking Boeing Field, contains displays about weather, physics and the natural world. The 3-acre Aviation Pavilion focuses on the airline industry from the 1930s to the present and houses 19 rare military and commercial airplanes. Of interest is the FedEx Air Cargo exhibit.

The Lear Gallery is the permanent home to NASA's Space Shuttle Trainer, used by every shuttle astronaut. A replica of the International Space Station's laboratory gives you a peek at astronaut life on a space mission. Also on display is the Perlan glider used to set the current world altitude record.
