AAA Editor Notes
Detroit Institute of Arts is at 5200 Woodward Ave. at Farnsworth Ave. The more than 66,000 pieces in the museum’s collection trace the development of art from ancient to modern times. The African, African American, American, Asian, Dutch, Italian Renaissance and modern art collections are notable. The Diego Rivera murals representing Detroit industry are highlights. Some of the other renowned artists featured include Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, Michelangelo, Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt, Peter Paul Rubens, John Singer Sargent, Georges Seurat, Vincent van Gogh and Andy Warhol.

Interactive elements such as digital books and videos of artists demonstrating their techniques are scattered throughout the galleries. Live music and other activities are offered Friday evenings, and family activities are held on weekends. Programs and concerts are also presented throughout the year.

Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
