Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is at 900 Exposition Blvd., within Exposition Park. The museum contains replicated habitats of African, North American and exotic mammals. Exhibits include birds, insects and marine life; displays of dinosaurs and prehistoric fossils; and mineral and cut gemstone collections. Nature Gardens, a 3.5-acre outdoor habitat and garden, encourages visitors to explore insects, birds and butterflies in a natural setting. Nature Lab encourages visitors to explore displays of live animals, observe plant and animal specimens and analyze science through hands-on activities. In spring and summer, visitors can stroll among hundreds of butterflies flying free in the Butterfly Pavilion. In the fall, Spider Pavilion opens, providing visitors a view of the orb-weavers.

Dinosaur Hall houses more than 300 fossils and 20 complete dinosaur and sea creature skeletons. Visitors can watch fossils being processed at Dino Lab. Exhibits in Becoming Los Angeles explores the city's natural and cultural history. The Discovery Center has hands-on exhibits for children and an insect zoo. Permanent and rotating exhibits are displayed.
