University of Alaska Museum of the North, on the West Ridge of the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus, contains natural and cultural history exhibits featuring Polar Passion, a collection of polar bear and Northern artwork. The Rose Berry Alaska Art Gallery highlights 2,000 years of Alaskan art. Also on display are an extensive gold collection and a 36,000-year-old mummified steppe bison preserved in the permafrost. "Dynamic Aurora," which explains the northern lights, and two National Geographic films, "Extreme Weather" and "Sea Monsters" are available. Behind-the-scenes tours also are offered.
