Alaska SeaLife Center, on Seward Hwy. (SR 9) at Milepost 0, generates and shares scientific knowledge to promote understanding and stewardship of Alaska’s marine ecosystems. Highlights include Steller sea lions, harbor seals, Giant Pacific octopus and a sea bird habitat that allows visitors to get up close to puffins, red-legged kittiwakes and other Alaskan avian wonders.
Exhibits also include a jellyfish display, the hands-on Discovery touch pool and the Lifecycles of Pacific Salmon, which examines the life stages of all five species of Pacific salmon. More than 300 of the fish may be observed in 2,200- to 6,000-gallon tanks. Guided behind-the-scenes tours are available in addition to marine mammal, octopus and puffin encounters.
Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
