Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, 520 16th St. N., is a museum and a research and education facility that contains permanent exhibits describing Birmingham's Civil Rights Movement and worldwide human rights struggles. An 8-minute introductory movie details class struggles and violent labor strikes occurring in the early 20th century between wealthy Birmingham steel industrialists and coal miners. Touch-screen monitors in the Arrington Resource Gallery offer access to an audiovisual history library.
