USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, 2703 Battleship Pkwy., is a 175-acre park dedicated to the Alabamians who served in the armed forces during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan. On-site are World War II heroes the USS Alabama, a battleship that earned its nine battle stars while part of a strike force in the Pacific, and the submarine USS Drum, which earned 12 battle stars undertaking 13 missions in the Pacific theater.

The USS Alabama's decks, turrets, mess, berth compartments, bridge, wardroom and captain's cabin are open for self-guiding tours, as are the USS Drum's torpedo rooms and the crew's quarters. The park also displays 28 historic aircraft.

The battleship's military service was highlighted by its dominant role in the occupation of the Yokosuka-Tokyo area at the close of World War II. Decommissioned in 1947, the ship was towed 5,600 miles from Bremerton, Wash., and was established as a floating shrine in 1965.
