Fort Morgan State Historic Site is 21 mi. w. to 110 SR 180W, at the entrance to Mobile Bay; the fort shared strategic importance with Fort Gaines during the Civil War. After a 14-day siege in 1864, this Confederate stronghold surrendered following the Battle of Mobile Bay. The fort was reactivated during the Spanish-American War and World Wars I and II. A museum and artillery pieces also are featured.
