Weeden House Museum, 300 Gates Ave. S.E., is furnished with antiques from the early- to mid-1800s. The 1819 house is the birthplace of artist and poet Maria Howard Weeden, who became known internationally in the 1890s for her watercolor portraits of African Americans and poems that captured their personalities and stories. Features include a cantilevered staircase, hand-carved mantels and a leaded-glass fanlight as well as Weeden's artwork.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
