Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is at 210 St. George's Dr. N.E. In themed areas, visitors observe nearly 1,000 animals representing 110 species, including such rare and endangered species as the Amur tiger and red panda. In Safari though Savannah you'll spy giraffes, hippos, lemurs, lions and meerkats.

Basking in an icy, state-of-the-art habitat, four penguin species pretend not to notice the crowds of chilly onlookers drawn to the Penguin Plunge exhibit. In Trek to the Rainforest, bold guests can thump their chests along with the resident western lowland gorilla troop and enjoy viewing chameleons and crocodiles.

Hike through the Rockies to find Black and grizzly bears, bighorn sheep, bison, caribou, cougars, otters and moose, some of the native Canadian creatures children and parents can learn about. The 2.6-hectare (6.5-acre) Prehistoric Park, dotted by life-size dinosaur replicas, transports you to western Canada's bygone Mesozoic landscape.
