AAA Editor Notes
Jasper SkyTram is 3 km (1.8 mi.) s. on Hwy. 93, then 4 km (2.5 mi.) w. at Whistlers Rd. Take a 7.5-minute narrated ride in an enclosed tram car 1,005 metres (3,297 ft.) up into the alpine zone on Whistlers Mountain, where stunning scenic views await. From the aerial tram's upper station at 2,263 metres (7,425 ft.) you can see six surrounding mountain ranges, several turquoise lakes, the Athabasca River and the town of Jasper. On a clear day you may even see Mount Robson in British Columbia, the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies.

Once at the upper station, you can stroll along the wooden boardwalk and read the interpretive panels posted along the way, or if you're feeling energetic, hike the remaining 1.4 km (.87 mi.) up to the summit and gain 200 metres (656 ft.) for a breathtaking 360-degree view.

Step carefully here; the plants that cling to life in this harsh alpine climate are delicate, small and easily damaged. Several have tiny but beautiful flowers. Ptarmigans are the most common birds in this rugged environment, and other frequently seen inhabitants include the diminutive pika and the hoary marmot, although you may hear these creatures before you ever see them. Pikas make a recognizable “eep” sound while the hoary marmot's call resembles a whistle, which is how Whistlers Mountain got its name.

Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
