Havasu National Wildlife Refuge is off I-40 exit 1, following signs. The refuge consists of two areas: Topock Gorge, south of junction I-40 and the Colorado River, and Topock Marsh, north of I-40 on the Arizona side of the river. Topock Gorge includes the 18,000-acre Havasu Wilderness Area. The 37,515-acre refuge is home to the southwestern willow flycatcher, the Yuma clapper rail, migratory birds, beavers and bighorn sheep. The refuge headquarters is in Needles, Calif.

Note: The gorge is accessible only by boat. Hunting and fishing (in season) are permitted, as is boating in designated areas.
