AAA Editor Notes
St. Roch National Historic Site is next to the Vancouver Maritime Museum. The supply ship was built in 1928 for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Arctic patrol. During World War II the St. Roch became the first vessel to travel from the Pacific to the Atlantic via the treacherous Northwest Passage in the Arctic; it completed the round trip in 1944. After the war, the schooner reached its destination via the Panama Canal, becoming the first ship to circumnavigate the North American continent. Preserved in dry dock, the vessel is displayed as it appeared in 1944.
