Hatley Park National Historic Site is at 2005 Sooke Rd. With its preserved old-growth forests, heritage gardens and spectacular vistas that overlook the Esquimalt Lagoon and the Juan de Fuca Strait, the centerpiece of this 216.5-hectare (565-acre) site is a 40-room Edwardian home built in 1908 by former British Columbia premier and lieutenant governor James Dunsmuir.

Hatley Castle, part of the historic site, has exhibits reflecting the estate's days as home to the Dunsmuir family, its days as Royal Roads Military College and its current use as the home of Royal Roads University. Admission to the castle is by guided tour only. The site's formal gardens include themed areas (Japanese, Rose and Italian), recreational spaces (croquet lawn, terrace lawn), agricultural zones and walking trails through the surrounding forest.

Guided tours are available.
