AAA Editor Notes
Nisga'a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park is 100 km (62 mi.) n. on Kalum Lake Dr. (Nisga'a Hwy.); the first 70 km (44 mi.) is paved. Drivers should watch for logging trucks.

Miles of lava beds were formed by a volcanic eruption some 250 years ago that destroyed two Nisga'a tribal villages, causing 2,000 deaths. The valley floor resembles the moon's surface. Interpretive trails provide easy access through the park. The New Aiyansh Village, 16 kilometres (10 mi.) north, features totem poles, a tribal council hall and a Nisga'a Lisims government building. Guided hiking tours to the volcanic cone are available.

Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
