Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site is at 12138 Fourth Ave. in Steveston Village. The 1894 salmon cannery on the waterfront of a historic fishing village has been restored to serve as an interpretive center for Canada's West Coast fishing industry. During its heyday, this cannery earned the title of the Monster Cannery, a reference to its size in comparison to about 15 other canneries on Steveston's Cannery Row.
Interactive exhibits of the herring reduction plant and replicated 1930s-50s canning line, a children's activity area, a harbor viewing deck and a 15-minute film about the West Coast fishing industry are offered year-round. The full cannery experience is offered May through October and includes guided tours, salmon tastings and canning machine demonstrations.
