AAA Editor Notes
Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre is at 4584 Blackcomb Way, just s. of Whistler's Upper Village. Conceived as a joint venture between the Squamish and Lil'wat First Nations, this facility is a showcase meant to share and preserve the culture and heritage of these two peoples. The spectacular building, with its rounded contours, was constructed to resemble a traditional Squamish longhouse and a Lil'wat istken (an earthen dwelling with a fire pit). Whistler and Blackcomb mountains are on view from the outdoor deck.

Inside, the Great Hall has soaring 22-foot ceilings, cedar wood walls and beautiful polished stone floors inlaid with different patterns. Among the exhibits are two Squamish canoes, traditional clothing and regalia, wall weavings, textiles and baskets. Visitors can watch artists at work and learn how to make a craft. Make sure you see the 15-minute film “Where Rivers, Mountains and People Meet,” which provides some fascinating historical and cultural context to what is on display.

Parking is available in Day Lot 4 adjacent to the center.

Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
