Tioga Pass Road begins at SR 120 and US 395, just s. of Lee Vining. Also designated SR 120, this paved, two-lane road traverses the park and provides the only entrance from the east.
The first 12 miles ascend nearly a mile in elevation and overlook a vast canyon. The route traverses Tuolumne Meadows, descends to Tenaya Lake and continues west to Big Oak Flat Road, offering a scenic trip with frequent overlooks to stop and admire the views. Although portions of the drive are more demanding than relaxing for motorists, the magnificent scenery makes up for it, and Tioga Pass Road is a very popular park destination.
Motorists should carry tire chains, since weather and road conditions can change quickly.
