AAA Editor Notes
Presidio Museum is in Lower Presidio Historic Park on Corporal Ewing Rd., Bldg. 113 (take Artillery St. off Pacific St.). It traces the history of this site from its habitation by Native Americans through a rich military past that began with the mission and presidio that were founded in Monterey in 1770. Exhibits depict such events as a revolutionary attack on Monterey in 1818, as well as the presidio's development from the first American military fort in California to a U.S. Army training base.

Several monuments are within walking distance, including the Sloat Monument, honoring the commander of the American forces that captured Monterey in 1846.

Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
