AAA Editor Notes
Lake Merritt Wildlife Refuge and Rotary Nature Center, Bellevue Ave. and Perkins St., has seasonal displays of birds, mammals and reptiles. During migratory seasons hundreds of wild geese, herons, egrets and ducks pass through the wildlife refuge outside the museum; founded in 1870, this is said to be the first established refuge in North America. The nature center also contains a native plant garden.

Note: At press time the nature center was closed for renovation; phone for updates.

Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
