AAA Editor Notes
Stanford University is about 1 mi. w. off Sand Hill Rd. The campus sprawls on 8,180 acres originally known as the Palo Alto Stock Farm, a former family estate of Leland and Jane Stanford. Frederick Law Olmstead created the general concept for the grounds, dotted with oak and eucalyptus trees, and the unifying architectural theme: Romanesque and California Mission Revival architecture reflected in sandstone buildings featuring arched arcades and red-tiled roofs.

One-hour walking tours of the campus depart from the Stanford Visitor Center at 295 Galvez St.
