AAA Editor Notes
Point Arena Lighthouse and Museum are 1 mi. n.w. on SR 1, then 2.4 mi. w. on Lighthouse Rd.; watch for the signed turnoff. The 115-foot-tall, steel-reinforced concrete lighthouse opened in 1908 to replace the 1870 structure that was irreparably damaged by the 1906 earthquake. Visitors can climb to the top, where a staff member can provide background information and answer questions. The lighthouse is adjacent to the Point Arena/Stornetta Unit of the California National Marine Sanctuary.

Historical items are displayed in the adjacent maritime museum. From the tower, museum and grounds it's possible to spot migrating and visiting whales throughout the year.
