Sacramento Zoo is off I-5 exit 516 (Sutterville Rd.) to 3930 West Land Park Dr., at jct. 16th Ave. This attractively landscaped zoo exhibits a variety of animals, including giraffes, chimpanzees, orangutans, lions, Sumatran tigers, jaguars, snow leopards, Grevy's zebras, lemurs and giant anteaters. Blue tree monitors, ball pythons and Tokey geckos are among the residents in the Reptile House.

Asian Forest includes a red panda exhibit. Among the resident bird species are hornbills and flamingos. Giraffes can be viewed from a platform deck, and twice-daily giraffe encounters allow visitors to feed these gentle giants. There's also a carousel that features 32 hand-crafted animals. A small train traverses the grounds. Zoo Backyard has picnic facilities and a children's play area.

Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
