AAA Editor Notes
Emperor Norton's Fantastic San Francisco Time Machine departs from Union Square beneath the Dewey Monument statue. This entertaining tour of historic city sites is conducted by a descendant (just kidding) of Joshua Abraham Norton, the eccentric 19th-century San Franciscan who proclaimed himself Norton I, Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico. In addition to gaining insight into the man behind the myth, guests will learn about the city's Barbary Coast era and visit the St. Francis Hotel, Jackson Square, Portsmouth Square and Maiden Lane, among other locations. The tour lasts approximately 2.75 hours and covers 2 miles.

Note: If access to Union Square is blocked by an event the tour meeting point is at the corner of Geary and Powell streets.
