Grace Cathedral is atop Nob Hill at 1100 California St. at jct. Taylor St. After two of their homes were destroyed by fire following the 1906 earthquake, the wealthy Crocker family offered the site for construction of a cathedral. Nearby Grace Church was also devastated; The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco luxury hotel was later built where that church stood.

Inside the French Gothic-style Episcopal cathedral, completed in 1964, are replicas of the bronze doors of the Baptistery in Florence, Italy (“The Gates of Paradise”) by Lorenzo Ghiberti, “The Life of Christ” triptych altarpiece by Keith Haring, two labyrinths, stained glass, and medieval and contemporary furnishings.
