AAA Editor Notes
SF Bay Whale Watching departs from Pier 39. All-day excursions on the 99-passenger Kitty Kat (or a similar vessel) take passengers on whale-watching/natural history tours 27 miles outside the Golden Gate Bridge into the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary to the Farallon Islands, a major breeding ground for sea birds.
In addition to whales, possible sightings include sea lions, elephant seals, fur seals, white sharks and dolphins. An on-board naturalist as well as the captain and crew provide information about the sights and marine animals.
You might even be joined by additional companions; the company frequently transports rehabilitated animals for release near the Farallon Islands.
Note: Dress warmly and in layers; a hat, gloves and rain gear are recommended. Bring food, water and snacks; food and beverages are not available on board.
