La Plaza de Cultura y Artes is at 501 N. Main St. Housed in two restored buildings dating back to the 1880s, the museum celebrates Mexican and Mexican-American culture and identity in Los Angeles. Displays include maps, clothing, photographs, movie posters and Mariachi suits and sombreros. Highlights include a collection of “Zoot Suit” mannequins and a shrine to LA Dodgers pitching legend Fernando Valenzuela. Upstairs, a re-creation of 1920s-era Main Street offers children hands-on activities.
