Ghirardelli Square

Ghirardelli Square, between Beach, Polk, North Point and Larkin sts., is within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf and the cable car turnaround. This complex of brick buildings is the site of the former Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory. They now house a handful of specialty retailers, and yes—you can still get your chocolate fix at the Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop. Take a look at original chocolate manufacturing equipment and then indulge in one of their signature chocolate squares or have a dish of ice cream in the café.

There's certainly no shortage of gift shops at Fisherman's Wharf, but Jackson & Polk is one worth checking out. The out-of-the-ordinary items include seahorse necklaces, octopus rings, scarves, handbags, candles, art and books. The little gnome figurines are delightful.
