AAA Editor Notes
The Gilpin History Museum, 1 blk. from Lawrence at 228 E. First High St., is in a restored 2-story 1870 schoolhouse. Displays include a miniature mining town, mining memorabilia, a re-created Main Street and rotating displays on regional and national history. Also featured is the Mountain Submarine, a vessel that was raised from Missouri Lake in 1944 that is believed to have been constructed in the late 1890s.

In winter months, tours can be arranged by appointment at the Gilpin History tour office at Washington Hall across from the 1932 Central City Opera House.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
